By ferry@insightinnews.com Aion Indonesia aims to establish Indonesia as a primary production hub in the Southeast Asian region, alongside Thailand. In collaboration with Indomobil Group, this Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer is not solely concentrating on product sales but also plans to construct a factory for electric vehicle production within the country. Major Qin, Vice President of Aion Indonesia, stated that the company has exported its products to over 20 countries worldwide. Currently, Indonesia is identified as a key nation in Aion's expansion strategy. "The partnership with Indomobil is not limited to sales; it also encompasses the production of electric vehicles," Qin remarked during a press conference held at Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), Jakarta, on Friday, November 8, 2024. "Our intention with Indomobil is to establish Indonesia as a production base, which will enable exports to international markets," he added. Aion already operates a factory in Thailand but intends to enhance its production capacity by establishing a new facility in Cikampek, West Java, scheduled to commence operations in the first quarter of 2025. This new factory is expected to have an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, focusing on the increasingly popular SUV segment within the ASEAN region. Indonesia possesses significant potential as a market and a hub for electric vehicle production, stated Qin. He further noted that the factory in Indonesia will concentrate on SUV products. The choice of Indonesia is attributed to government policy support that prioritizes the development of the electric vehicle industry and the continuously growing market potential. It is noteworthy that Aion, in its first year in the country, has introduced a range of advanced electric vehicle models, including the Y Plus, ES, and Hyptec HT. Aion Indonesia's CEO, Andry Ciu, revealed that all products sold domestically will eventually be assembled locally using a completely knocked down (CKD) scheme, starting gradually in May 2025. With this ambitious expansion plan, Aion is poised to establish Indonesia as a center for electric vehicle production and export, in line with the global trend increasingly favoring environmentally friendly vehicles.
