By deriz@insightinnews.com Participants in the forthcoming Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program will be introduced to two new subjects. The esteemed Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, articulated that this initiative is designed to elevate the caliber of educators across Indonesia. He elaborated that the newly incorporated PPG subjects are grounded in four pivotal teacher competencies that must be cultivated in unison: personal competence, pedagogical competence, social competence, and professional competence. "Thus, those embarking on the Teacher Professional Education journey should not be taken aback by the inclusion of two additional subjects: guidance counseling and value education," he remarked during the National Teacher's Day festivities, heralding November as National Teacher Month, as reported by the Ministry of Education and Culture. According to Mu'ti, there are three essential criteria for fostering professional and prosperous educators, one of which is the PPG program. The second criterion is teacher certification. To facilitate this, the Ministry will extend support to teachers who have yet to obtain a Bachelor's degree (S1) or a Diploma IV (D4). Our forthcoming initiative, with divine favor, aims to encompass scholarships and educational support for educators aspiring to advance their studies to D4 or S1 levels, he remarked. Furthermore, the enhancement of teachers' welfare remains a priority. "The caliber of our educators, exceptional as they are, is significantly influenced by their well-being," Abdul Mu'ti emphasized. The PPG program is designed for both aspiring and current educators to obtain a teaching certification. Its primary objective is to elevate the skills and qualifications of teachers, ensuring they are well-prepared to instruct at the elementary and secondary education tiers. There exist two distinct categories of PPG: one tailored for future educators (pre-service) and another for current teachers in designated roles (in-service). Those who successfully navigate the PPG selection process will be awarded educational funding amounting to Rp 17 million, sufficient to support their studies over two semesters or one academic year.
