By srirahayu@insightinnews.com The Minister of Environment announced changes to the assessment system for the Adipura award. Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that waste management will now play a more important role in the Adipura evaluation. This award program was previously used to recognize cities that successfully maintained cleanliness and managed their environment. Hanif made this statement during the "Clean Action of the Cipinang River Basin" event on Friday, November 1, 2024. "We will completely overhaul Adipura. The waste component will no longer be just 30 percent," Hanif told reporters. "The waste component will now account for 70 to 75 percent of the evaluation, with the rest being policy-related. Previously, the waste component only had a weight of 30 percent, which is not a healthy assessment composition. He mentioned that local governments that can manage waste at a rate of 75 percent will be eligible for the Adipura award. Additionally, the Ministry of Environment plans to reactivate several environmental programs that were previously in place. Several programs like Clean Kali, Blue Sky, Green Indonesia, and Healthy Sea will be revived. These programs are seen as essential to improve the environmental quality index across Indonesia. "Our Environmental Quality Index is still below the target set by the RPJMN. We need special projects that focus on specific goals, so we plan to declare the four programs soon," he said. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry also encourages all community members and local governments to work together seriously. They are expected to help maintain and enhance environmental quality to tackle increasingly complex environmental challenges.
