Profile Of Minister Of Law Supratman Andi Agtas

By srirahayu@insightinnews.com Supratman Andi Agtas possesses a legal background and has served as a lecturer for 14 years at Tadulako University, in addition to his role as an advocate. He most recently held the position of a member of the People's Representative Council from the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) representing the Central Sulawesi electoral district. Furthermore, Andi Agtas served as the Chairman of the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the Council for two consecutive terms, from 2014 to 2019 and from 2019 to 2024. However, as the term of the Council for 2019-2024 was nearing its conclusion, Supratman was succeeded by Wihadi Wiyanto, who is also affiliated with Gerindra. His significant contributions in the Council include participation in working committees and special committees that addressed various crucial laws, such as the Revision of Law MD3, the Election Bill, and the Cyber Bill. In addition to his legal and political endeavors, Supratman has also held the position of Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Central Sulawesi. He served as the President Director of the Regional Company of Palu City from 2005 to 2015, as well as a Commissioner at PT Citra Nuansa Elok from 2004 to 2012, and as the Chairman of the Real Estate Indonesia (REI) Central Sulawesi from 2004 to 2010. Supratman Andi Agtas is noted for his role as a lecturer in the law faculty at Tadulako University from 1998 to 2012. He completed both his undergraduate and master's degrees in legal studies. He obtained his bachelor's degree from UMI Makassar and his master's degree in legal studies from Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in Makassar. Furthermore, Supratman earned a doctoral degree in legal studies from the Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) in Makassar. Prior to his entry into the political arena in Indonesia and his affiliation with the Gerindra Party, Supratman had a career as a lawyer. The Ministry of Law emerged as a division of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights during the administration of the seventh President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. Supratman was appointed as the Minister of Law and Human Rights in this administration. His inauguration took place on August 19, 2024, shortly before President Jokowi completed his term. Prior to this appointment, he succeeded Yasonna Laoly in the role of Minister. Supratman Andi Agtas has a total wealth amounting to Rp 22,899,840,099, as reported in the State Officials Wealth Report (LHKPN) submitted to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on March 15, 2024, for the 2023 reporting period.
