Lettu Inf. (Purn.) H. Sugiono, B.Sc., M.Sc. is a founding member of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and has been an active cadre since 2008.

He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Commission I of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR-RI) for the 2019-2024 term, having successfully secured a seat for Gerindra in the 2019 Legislative Election from the Central Java I electoral district, which includes Semarang City, Semarang Regency, Kendal Regency, and Salatiga City.

In the 2024 election, Sugiono once again won a seat in the DPR-RI for the 2024-2029 term from the same electoral district, Central Java I.

Born on February 11, 1979, in Takengon, Aceh Tengah, Sugiono grew up in the highlands of Gayo. After completing his elementary education in Takengon, he continued his secondary education at SMPN 1 Takengon and finished at SMPN 3 Banda Aceh.

In 1994, Sugiono successfully passed the selection for Taruna Nusantara High School in Magelang, Central Java, where he attended a boarding school until his graduation in 1997.

During his time at Taruna Nusantara High School, Sugiono was actively involved in the student organization (OSIS) and was elected as a class representative in his final year. He is recognized as an alumnus of the fifth cohort of Taruna Nusantara High School (1994-1997).

His aspiration to become a soldier led him to apply for the AKABRI cadet program. Simultaneously, the then Commander of Kopassus, Major General TNI Prabowo Subianto, initiated a pilot project to send Taruna Nusantara alumni to various military academies in the United States through a scholarship program.

The aspiration to become a soldier in the Indonesian Army and the opportunity to pursue education abroad led him to decide to enroll in the program. He participated in the selection process and was declared successful in gaining admission to Norwich University, the oldest military college in the United States, to train as a cadet.

After graduating from Norwich University, Sugiono worked in the United States for a time before choosing to return to his homeland and pursue officer training at the Indonesian Military Academy in Magelang. In 2002, he graduated and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Infantry Corps.

Upon completing his education, he embarked on a political career, serving as the Deputy Chairman and Daily Executive Board Member of Gerindra for the 2020-2025 term. Additionally, from 2021 to 2024, he held the position of Chairman of the Gerindra Faction in the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia.

Sugiono is recognized as an ideological ally of Prabowo Subianto, being regarded as an intelligent figure within Prabowo's inner circle.

Among Gerindra cadres, Sugiono is perceived to share many similarities with the elected president, such as being meticulous in addressing issues and assertive in his stance.
