Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has emphasized that the government will promptly take measures to protect the employees of PT Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex). This follows the recent bankruptcy declaration of the textile giant by the Semarang District Court. Agus stated that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed several relevant technical ministries to conduct a thorough review aimed at rescuing Sritex.

"President Prabowo has directed the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Finance, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, and the Minister of Manpower to urgently explore various options and schemes to save Sritex," Agus noted in a written statement on Friday, October 25, 2024. Furthermore, Agus explained that the government's current priority is to safeguard Sritex employees from the threat of layoffs.

"The government will take immediate steps to ensure the company's operations continue and that workers are protected from layoffs. The options and rescue schemes will be communicated as soon as possible, once the four ministries finalize their strategies," he elaborated.

Previously, PT Sritex was declared bankrupt following a ruling by the Semarang District Court in case number 2/Pdt.Sus-Homologasi/2024/PN Niaga Smg. This bankruptcy decision has raised concerns about potential layoffs affecting tens of thousands of Sritex employees. In response, the government, through the Ministry of Manpower, has urged Sritex not to proceed with immediate layoffs.

"The Ministry of Manpower has requested that PT Sritex and its subsidiaries, which have been declared bankrupt by the Commercial Court, refrain from hastily laying off their workers until a final decision is made by the Supreme Court," stated Indah Anggoro Putri, Director General of Industrial Relations and Social Security for Workers.
