Dr. (H.C.) Ir. H. Airlangga Hartarto, MBA, MMT, was born in Surabaya, East Java, on October 1, 1962, making him 57 years old. He currently serves as the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 term in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet under President Joko Widodo and Vice President K.H. Ma’ruf Amin. Previously, he held the position of Minister of Industry during the reshuffle of President Joko Widodo's Working Cabinet alongside Jusuf Kalla. Airlangga has been the Chairman of the Golkar Party's Central Executive Board since 2017, succeeding Setya Novanto. He announced his resignation from this position on August 10, 2024.
Airlangga Hartarto has also served as the Chairman of the Indonesian Stock Exchange Association from 2011 to 2014, as well as the Chairman of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives from 2006 to 2009. He was recorded as the Deputy Treasurer in the Golkar Party's Central Executive Board from 2004 to 2009 and later became the Chairman of the Golkar Party from 2009 to 2015. He was re-elected as a member of the House of Representatives for the 2009-2014 term representing West Java V and served as the Chairman of Commission VI, which oversees industry, trade, small and medium enterprises, investment, and state-owned enterprises.
Additionally, Airlangga Hartarto was the Chairman of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) from 2006 to 2009 and served as the Chairman of the PII Council from 2009 to 2012. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta until 2012 and initiated the Herman Johannes Award, which recognizes technological innovation during his tenure as the Chairman of the UGM Faculty of Engineering Alumni Family (KATGAMA) in 2003. Airlangga is also the owner of several companies and holds the position of President Commissioner at PT. Fajar Surya Wisesa, Tbk.

Airlangga is married to Yanti K. Isfandiary and they have children: Adanti, Ravindra, Audi, Dines, Bianda, Latascha, Maisara, and Natalie. In a media interview, Airlangga expressed his admiration for Mahatma Gandhi's teachings regarding seven principles to avoid, which include wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, business without ethics, science without humanity, honor without sacrifice, and politics without principles.
Airlangga Hartarto authored the book "Clustering Strategies in Indonesia's Industrialization" (published by Andi Offset, Yogyakarta, 2004). He is the son of Ir. Hartarto, who served as Minister of Industry in the Fourth Development Cabinet (1983-1988) and the Fifth Development Cabinet (1988-1993), as well as the Coordinating Minister for Production and Distribution in the Sixth Development Cabinet (1993-1998).
