The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) announced its new management structure for the 2024-2029 term on Monday, October 7, during an Economic Discussion event featuring Senior International Entrepreneurs.
Kadin, an abbreviation for the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, serves as a representative body for the business community in Indonesia. It acts as a bridge between the government and business actors, providing a platform for entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, build networks, and advocate for common interests.
During the discussion, Kadin introduced Anindya Bakrie as the new Chairman, succeeding Arsjad Rasjid, who has been appointed as the Chairman of Kadin's Advisory Council.
Chairman Anindya Bakrie stated that the announcement of the management is only about 50% complete for the overall Kadin Indonesia 2024-2029 leadership. The remaining members will be revealed following the inauguration of the elected President and Vice President, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, on October 20.
The additional management members will be aligned with the new ministries that will be established under Prabowo's administration.
"It can indeed be said that this is only 50%, as the other 50% will be announced after October 20, when we can assess the nomenclature and also the working partners. Together with the parliament, particularly with Commissions XII and XIII, we will have a clearer view," Anindya remarked.
Previously, a dual leadership situation arose within Kadin following the sudden convening of an extraordinary congress on Saturday, September 14, which resulted in Anindya Bakrie being appointed as the Chairman of Kadin. This occurred despite Arsjad, who was elected as chairman in 2021, still having a term that extends until 2026. The execution of this extraordinary congress has sparked controversy, as it is deemed invalid and illegal.
Furthermore, the extraordinary congress is considered to lack quorum due to opposition from 21 regional Kadin chapters. On the other hand, the organizers of the congress assert that Anindya Bakrie's appointment is legitimate, as it was attended by representatives from 28 out of 34 provincial Kadin chapters and 25 associations.
This controversy was eventually alleviated when the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, along with the Chairman of Golkar, Bahlil Lahadalia, facilitated a meeting between Anindya Bakrie and Arsjad Rasyid amidst the ongoing dual leadership issue. This meeting took place during a luncheon at Bahlil's official residence on Jalan Denpasar, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Monday, September 27, 2024.
