President Prabowo Subianto has allocated a budget of Rp 100 billion for the operation of the People's Schools. However, this budget may vary based on the specific needs of each local People's School. "The budget for the People's Schools depends on their development and the requirements of each location, averaging around Rp 100 billion for one school," said Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Monday (March 10, 2025). The schools will utilize about 40 centers and halls owned by the Ministry of Social Affairs that are currently unused, as well as buildings from two universities, Universitas Brawijaya and UNESA in Surabaya, that are ready for use.

Cak Imin, as he is commonly known, stated that at least 50 People's Schools are set to begin operations in 2025. "We aim to establish as many as possible; around 50 schools are ready, and this number may increase. The Minister of Social Affairs (Saifullah Yusuf) will provide information on their locations," he mentioned. Furthermore, according to Cak Imin, the People's Schools will start accepting new students in the 2025 academic year. "This year, we will begin the work to establish the People's Schools. In the next academic year, we will start enrolling students from elementary, middle, and high school levels," he added.

Previously, it was reported that the People's Schools are intended for the poorest communities, specifically those in the first and second income brackets. Prospective students from these groups will undergo further academic testing to enroll in the People's Schools. Minister Saifullah Yusuf indicated that 50 People's Schools are ready to operate this year, with plans to cover all educational levels from elementary to high school. "We will assess which schools are ready to start at the elementary level, which ones at the middle school level, and which at the high school level. Ultimately, the plan is to have all three levels: elementary, middle, and high school," Saifullah Yusuf stated.
