Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, aims to reduce the poverty rate in Indonesia to 4.5% of the total population by 2029. "Currently, there are nearly 25 million people living in poverty, specifically 24.8 million, which is about 8.7% of our population," Cak Imin stated after a ministerial meeting with 43 ministers and agencies at the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan building on Friday, March 14, 2025. "By 2029, we aim to bring that down to a maximum of 4.5%," he added.

Cak Imin explained that the meeting with the 43 ministries and agencies focused on strategic steps to follow the President's directive to achieve zero extreme poverty by 2026. He mentioned that a presidential instruction will soon be issued to coordinate the efforts of these ministries and agencies in tackling poverty and extreme poverty.

“We will also have further discussions, particularly on the importance of the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), which we will continuously validate to ensure that all poverty alleviation programs are effectively targeted,” Cak Imin noted.

He emphasized that the two main approaches in the state budget to reduce poverty are increasing people's income and lowering their expenses. “We have direct assistance programs, such as the Self-Help Housing Stimulus (BSPS) and electricity subsidies, which we will continue to coordinate to ensure they reach those who are eligible,” he said.
