, 16 Feb 2025

The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) plans to regulate social media use among children. Minister Arifah Fauzi stated that discussions about age limits for children's access to social media will involve the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikdasmen). "We will work with Kemendikdasmen and other ministries to determine the appropriate age limits for children accessing social media. Please stay tuned," Arifah said during an event at Hotel Sultan in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (February 5, 2025). She also mentioned that they are inviting the Law Alumni Association of the University of Indonesia to help discuss regulations on limiting social media use for children. "We will collaborate with the Law Alumni Association, so please wait for the results," she added.

Previously, Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid revealed that the government is developing rules to restrict social media use for children. The main goal is to protect them from exposure to negative content online. "Child safety and protection in the digital world is very important," Meutya Hafid stated on January 30, 2025.

She noted that the regulations for limiting children's social media use are still under review and may be included in a draft government regulation or even a new law currently being discussed. The government is also gathering input from various stakeholders to refine the draft regulations. Meutya emphasized that feedback will be welcomed from the House of Representatives (DPR) RI, educators, parents, and child advocates. "We will consider all input carefully and wisely, as this is not a decision to be made hastily," she said.
