The Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Meutya Hafid, stated that Indonesia ranks fourth in the world for the highest number of child pornography cases. She noted that this issue is one of the reasons President Prabowo Subianto has instructed her ministry, along with three other ministries, to expedite the creation of regulations for child protection in the digital realm. The other three ministries involved are the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemenpppa), and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen).
"Friends, this is not without reason, as Indonesia is currently recorded as the fourth largest country in the world concerning child pornography content," Meutya said during a press conference at Kemendikdasmen in Jakarta on Sunday (February 2, 2025). "This does not even address online gambling that targets children, bullying, sexual violence against children, and other negative aspects," she added.
Meutya mentioned that the Komdigi and the three ministries have been called to a meeting at the Palace with the Cabinet Secretary (Seskab). During this meeting, President Prabowo instructed them to quickly draft regulations for child protection in the digital space. "The President, through Seskab, expressed the need for expedited regulations for child protection in the digital environment, with a timeline of one to two months for completion," Meutya explained. Consequently, the Komdigi, Kemenkes, Kemenpppa, and Kemendikdasmen have issued a Decree (SK) to form a Working Team responsible for developing these regulations. "We have all coordinated initially with the ministers, and everyone shares the same enthusiasm from different perspectives," Meutya concluded.
