Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, the Deputy Speaker of the DPR, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has not issued a policy banning retailers from selling 3 kg LPG gas. However, due to the current situation in society, Prabowo has decided to allow retailers to resume selling subsidized LPG. "This is not a presidential decision to impose a ban. Instead, considering the circumstances, the President intervened to instruct retailers to operate again while managing the administrative aspects," Dasco said at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (February 4, 2025).
Dasco further explained that following discussions between the DPR and Prabowo the night before, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), led by Bahlil Lahadalia, proposed the ban to stabilize the rising prices of subsidized LPG in the community. "The DPR has been in communication with the President since last night, and there was a desire from the ESDM to regulate prices at retailers to prevent them from being too high for the public," he added. "However, after communicating with the President, he instructed the ESDM to reactivate the retailers today so they can sell as usual," Dasco continued.
Regarding the 3 kg LPG issue, Minister Bahlil Lahadalia mentioned that he has not yet reported the confusion about the ban on selling to President Prabowo Subianto. He acknowledged that there has been some unrest in the community due to the ban. "There's no need to report every detail to the President," Bahlil stated when met in Bogor, West Java, on Sunday (February 2, 2025). He emphasized that Prabowo has many ministers who serve as 'assistants' and that not every minor issue needs to be reported to the President. "If every issue is reported, it seems like no ministers are doing their jobs," he added. He emphasized that ministers are responsible for addressing problems related to the 3 kg LPG if there are any mistakes. "Enough already, if that's truly the case, let the ministers handle it and correct any errors," Bahlil concluded.
