Gugum Ridho Putra has been elected as the Chairman of the Partai Bulan Bintang (PBB) for the 2025-2030 term. He is the nephew of Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections. His election took place during the sixth Muktamar held in Bali.

"Decided, appointed, and confirmed, Mr. Gugum Ridho Putra as the Chairman of the Central Leadership Council of Partai Bulan Bintang for the 2025-2030 term," said Azhar, the Secretary of the Meeting, on Wednesday, January 15.

In the Muktamar, Gugum competed against former PBB Secretary-General Afriansyah Noor.

Gugum received 398 votes out of a total of 532 valid votes, while Afriansyah Noor got 134 votes.

Gugum explained that he decided to run for the position due to the declining presence of the party, emphasizing the need for new breakthroughs to enhance its visibility.

"The Partai Bulan Bintang must continue to be a key voice for Islamic values that bring blessings to the universe. The existence of PBB should reflect a strong spirit of Indonesian-ness and provide solutions to the challenges of the times," Gugum stated.

After 26 years since its establishment during the reform era, he noted that PBB faces new challenges. The rapid advancement of information technology and the changing demographics of voters, now largely made up of millennials and Gen-Z, require the party to accelerate its efforts to remain relevant and strengthen its presence in society.

"The youth are the future of the nation and this party. We must actively involve them and inspire them to believe that politics is a noble path to improve the nation and state. PBB must be brave enough to give space and trust to the younger generation to lead at both national and local levels," Gugum added.

In addition to the Chairman, the sixth Muktamar also elected KH Mohamad Saltut as the Chairman of the PBB Advisory Council and Aries Muhammad as the Chairman of the Party Court.
