BYD's Factory In Indonesia Will Be Completed This Year

, 05 Jan 2025

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Build Your Dream (BYD) is speeding up the construction of its factory in Indonesia, moving the completion date from 2026 to the fourth quarter of 2025. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific, stated that this decision supports the Indonesian government's goal to strengthen the electric vehicle ecosystem. This announcement was made during a recent visit by the Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, to BYD's headquarters in Shenzhen, China.

Liu mentioned, "The construction of the BYD factory in Indonesia will be one of the fastest. Typically, building an electric vehicle factory takes 10 to 16 months." However, the factory is set to begin operations in early 2026. Additionally, BYD is committed to expanding production capacity at its facility in Subang, West Java, to meet domestic and export demand. This expansion will also create opportunities for developing electric vehicle battery facilities and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) technology. Liu added, "With additional investment and industry strengthening, we are committed to increasing production capacity at the BYD factory in Indonesia and developing technologies like batteries for New Energy Vehicles."

Rosan assured full government support for BYD's investment, including speeding up infrastructure development, such as roads connecting industrial areas to ports. The government is also providing various incentives to accelerate the transformation of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia. BYD's factory expansion in Indonesia is expected to create over 18,000 new job opportunities. This investment aims not only to boost electric vehicle production capacity but also to enhance the technical skills of the Indonesian workforce in the electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors.

During the visit, BYD showcased future electric vehicle technology, including a PHEV with DM-i technology that can travel up to 2,000 km. This PHEV provides a flexible mobility solution, combining the benefits of electric vehicles with the convenience of traditional fuel use. "We are committed to diversifying our products and supporting the government in developing policies for New Energy Vehicles (NEV)," said Liu. BYD also announced plans to launch its premium sub-brand Denza in the Indonesian market in early 2025. The arrival of Denza is expected to meet the needs of consumers in the premium segment while enhancing BYD's electric vehicle lineup in Indonesia.
