Indonesian Minister of Migrant Worker Protection/BP2MI Abdul Kadir Karding aims to send 500,000 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to 100 destination countries next year. This target is higher than the previous year's. "We are not being overly ambitious; last year we sent 287,000. If we can reach between 400,000 and 500,000, that would be great," Karding said at the BP2MI office in Jakarta on Monday (December 23, 2024). He mentioned that the government has six main destination countries for PMIs: Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. The Ministry of P2MI is also responsible for supporting PMIs when they return home.
"We will assist them to promote empowerment. There are many things we can do, such as training, connecting products to the capital market, and providing financial and business management training," he added. Lastly, regarding sending PMIs to Saudi Arabia, the government has set two conditions: high salary guarantees and health protection. "We are still studying Saudi Arabia; essentially, if we proceed, we need to ensure high salaries and comprehensive worker protection," he stated.
