Data From Coursera Shows That Interest In Learning AI In Indonesia Is Rising In 2024

Online learning platform Coursera has seen a rise in interest in studying Artificial Intelligence (AI). Data from Coursera indicates that in 2024, nearly every two minutes, someone in the Asia-Pacific region enrolls in a GenAI course. The growing interest in GenAI education in Indonesia reflects global and Asia-Pacific trends. In 2024, Coursera reported a 330 percent increase in GenAI registrations in Indonesia, driven by courses like Google AI Essentials, Generative AI for Everyone, and Generative AI: Introduction and Applications. Raghav Gupta, Managing Director for Asia-Pacific at Coursera, stated that Indonesian learners are preparing for the future job market in 2024 by prioritizing GenAI and skills that meet job demands to stay competitive in a changing workforce.

AI skills have become a top priority. Gupta noted that this trend shows resilience, adaptability, and a desire to lead globally. While basic GenAI courses remain popular, the focus is shifting towards applying GenAI in the workplace, indicating a more mature interest in practical uses of the technology. Additionally, Microsoft's Work Trend Index 2024 reveals that AI skills are crucial for hiring leaders in Indonesia. About 69 percent of Indonesian leaders said they would not hire candidates lacking AI skills, regardless of other qualifications. Furthermore, 76 percent prefer candidates with less experience but strong AI skills over more experienced candidates without AI expertise.
