In 2024, tourism events are expected to attract 8.4 million domestic and international visitors, generating an economic impact of Rp 13.57 trillion. According to Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, in a release received by Kompas.com on Friday (December 20, 2024), the Ministry of Tourism is supporting 109 events under the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2024 program across 38 provinces. She stated that these events, especially those in the KEN program, have positively influenced the economy and increased tourist visits in Indonesia.

"KEN 2024 involves thousands of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), artists, communities, associations, and event workers. This has led to a direct increase in business revenue by up to 67%," said Minister Widiyanti. Additionally, the Ministry is backing 175 local events (both KEN and non-KEN), 101 national events, and 31 international events.

Notable international events in Indonesia for 2024 include the Aquabike Jetski World Championship at Lake Toba, MotoGP in Mandalika, and the F1 Powerboat event at Lake Toba. Minister Widiyanti emphasized the importance of these events in promoting and enhancing Indonesia's image globally. Together with stakeholders, the Ministry is also developing tourist destinations, including through a flagship program for village tourism development. Currently, 6,057 tourist villages are part of the Jejaring Desa Wisata (Jadesta) platform, which serves as an integrated database to strengthen the village tourism ecosystem.

Moreover, the annual Anugerah Desa Wisata Indonesia (ADWI) continues to recognize the best tourist villages. In ADWI 2024, 50 top tourist villages were selected, while 40 villages received sustainable certification from 2022 to 2024. As part of sustainability efforts, two Indonesian tourist villages, Jatiluwih and Wukirsari, were chosen as Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism 2024. This is a great pride for us," added Minister of Tourism Widiyanti.

Focusing on 5 Super Priority Tourism Destinations, the Ministry of Tourism will continue to prioritize the development of five Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP), which are Lake Toba, Borobudur, Labuan Bajo, Mandalika, and Likupang. This step aligns with the vision to promote Indonesian tourism as a leading sector that is sustainable and competitive globally.

Through various strategic initiatives, the Ministry is optimistic that Indonesian tourism can not only drive the economy but also help preserve the environment and ensure long-term sustainability.
