Stadion Maguwoharjo in Yogyakarta Special Region will officially open in early 2025 after a complete renovation and upgrade. This was announced by the Acting Director General of Cipta Karya at the Ministry of Public Works, Endra Saleh Atmawidjaja, during a visit to the stadium's rehabilitation and renovation on Saturday, December 21, 2024. "Stadion Maguwoharjo Yogyakarta will be ready for inauguration in early 2025," said Endra.
What Facilities Have Been Improved at This Stadium? The renovation project has updated several facilities at Stadion Maguwoharjo. The stadium now has a capacity of 20,595 single seats, reinforced stands, Field of Play (FoP) lighting, an audio system, improved drainage, and changing rooms for players. Additionally, the football field now features Zosya Matrela grass, which meets FIFA standards.
Why Is This Renovation Important? The renovation of Stadion Maguwoharjo is part of a project involving 22 stadiums that the Ministry of Public Works is focusing on for the 2023/2024 budget year. The goal is to enhance the quality and comfort of sports venues in Indonesia, especially ahead of major upcoming sports events. The PSSI team, along with FIFA representatives Benjamin Veenbrink and Mazhar Ahmed, has also visited the stadium to monitor and evaluate it after a feasibility test conducted by a FIFA-appointed professional vendor. The tests included important aspects such as rolling tests, rebound tests, root density tests, and root length measurements, ensuring the stadium is ready for various sports events in the future.
