KPK Names PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto As A Suspect

Saturday, 28 Dec 2024

Setyo Budiyanto, the head of the KPK, explained in a press conference at his office on Tuesday (December 24) that the suspect designation is a result of the investigation into the bribery case involving KPU member Wahyu Setiawan from the 2017-2022 period, which was carried out by Harun Masiku and Saiful Bahri. Harun Masiku is currently a fugitive listed on the wanted list.

In this case, the anti-corruption commission has named four suspects: Harun Masiku, Saiful Bahri, Wahyu Setiawan, and Agustiani on January 8, 2020. Three of the four suspects have already faced legal proceedings. However, while investigating and trying to locate the fugitive Harun, Setyo mentioned that the KPK found evidence of involvement from Hasto and Donny Tri Istiqomah, Hasto's trusted associate.

Setyo detailed that Hasto placed Harun in a voting district in South Sumatra, even though Masiku is from Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi. In the 2019 DPR elections, Masiku received only 5,878 votes, while another PDIP candidate, Rizki Aprilia, received 44,402 votes.

According to the rules, Rizki should have replaced PDIP member Nazaruddin Kiemas. However, Setyo stated that Hasto attempted to ensure Masiku's victory. Hasto then filed a judicial review with the Supreme Court and signed a letter dated August 5, 2019, regarding the implementation of the Supreme Court's judicial review decision. However, the KPU refused to implement this decision and sought a fatwa from the Supreme Court on the matter.

Additionally, Hasto tried to persuade Rizki to withdraw so that Masiku could take his place, but Rizki refused. Hasto even instructed Saiful Bahri to meet Rizki in Singapore to ask him to step down, but this was also rejected. Hasto went as far as to withhold the invitation letter for the inauguration of DPR members for the 2019-2024 period in Rizki's name, and later asked Rizki to resign after the inauguration.

Hasto, along with Masiku, Saiful Bahri, and DPI, attempted to bribe Wahyu Setiawan after their initial efforts failed, Setyo reported. On August 31, 2019, Hasto met with Wahyu and asked him to support two candidates for the DPR: Maria Lestari from West Kalimantan and Masiku from South Sumatra.

Setyo noted that the investigation revealed evidence showing that part of the bribe money for Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani came from Hasto. He stated that Hasto organized and controlled Saiful Bahri and DPI in the bribery process from planning to the actual delivery of the money to Wahyu Setiawan.

Setyo explained that the alleged corruption involved Hasto Kristiyanto and Harun Masiku, who offered gifts or promises to Wahyu Setiawan, a member of the General Election Commission from 2017 to 2022, regarding the selection of DPR members for 2019-2024.

Additionally, Hasto is suspected of obstructing the investigation. Setyo described an incident on January 8, 2020, when Hasto instructed an employee to call Masiku during a KPK sting operation, telling him to destroy his phone and flee.

On June 6, before being questioned by the KPK, Hasto ordered another employee to sink his phone to prevent it from being found. He also gathered several witnesses related to Masiku's case and pressured them not to provide truthful statements that could implicate him. Setyo mentioned that the sufficiency of evidence led the KPK to finally name Hasto a suspect after five years of investigating the Harun Masiku case.
