The Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has reported that small, micro, and medium enterprises (SMEs) have recorded partnership agreements valued at IDR 3.9 trillion with large businesses in Indonesia. A total of 579 partnerships have been established from 2020 to 2024.
According to the Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry, Rosan P. Roeslani, this agreement involves 158 large enterprises and 389 SMEs across Indonesia. "We observe that the investments entering the country, which are under our coordination, must also contribute to the development of SMEs throughout Indonesia," Rosan stated in a press release from the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry on Friday, December 13, 2024.
"We consistently prioritize and strive to enhance the role of SMEs in the future, ensuring they grow, operate effectively, and improve, with a key focus on increasing the productivity of human resources within SMEs themselves," he elaborated. Rosan emphasized that SMEs are the backbone of Indonesia's economy, contributing approximately 60.51 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Furthermore, Rosan highlighted that 97 percent of the total workforce in Indonesia is currently employed in the SME sector. On the other hand, he noted that the contribution of SMEs to exports remains relatively suboptimal. "It is still at 16 percent, but we will continue to encourage growth and enhance the role of SMEs," he explained. (ferry@insightinnews.com)
