KPU Confirms Completion Of Simultaneous Voting Process Of 2024 Regional Elections

Friday, 13 Dec 2024

The General Election Commission (KPU) has confirmed that all voting processes for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections, including supplementary voting and any re-voting that occurred, have been completed. In a press conference held on Friday, December 13, 2024, KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin announced that a total of 602 Voting Places (TPS) have successfully conducted their voting activities. "All 602 TPS have completed their operations, and there are no longer any supplementary voting, re-voting, or additional voting processes," he stated.

Afifuddin expressed gratitude and appreciation for the fact that the majority of the voting and recapitulation processes at the district, city, and provincial levels have proceeded smoothly, despite some regions encountering challenges. According to KPU data, several issues have arisen in Papua related to the recapitulation of vote counts, which have not yet reached 100 percent due to security concerns and local dynamics.

"To this day, we are still making efforts and maintaining intensive communication with our colleagues (KPU), especially in several provinces," Afif stated. He also elaborated that security issues in Papua are ongoing. "In this situation, we are discussing together to find alternatives, which we have documented in a letter that we have provided," he added.

Some areas that have yet to complete the vote count recapitulation include Mamberamo Raya and Jayapura Districts in Papua Province, Lani Jaya and Tolikara Districts in Papua Mountains Province, as well as Puncak, Puncak Jaya, and Paniai Districts in Central Papua Province. Afif revealed that there have been instances of intimidation and violence against election officials in these regions.

In the letter he signed regarding the handling of the recapitulation, he emphasized the importance of protecting and ensuring the safety of the officials as a top priority. "Considering the areas where challenges pertain to security and local conflicts, we hope that the KPU will communicate with all parties to prevent any violence during the recapitulation process," stated Afif.
