Monday, 09 Dec 2024

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) held the 2024 Mass Media Appreciation event under the theme "Collaboration of the Financial Sector for a Prosperous Indonesia" to recognize the contributions of mass media in communicating OJK's programs and policies to the public.

This appreciation ceremony, part of the celebration of OJK's 13th anniversary, took place in Jakarta on Friday, December 6, and was presented directly by members of the OJK Board of Commissioners to several editors-in-chief of national and regional media outlets.

During the event, OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar emphasized the crucial role of mass media in maintaining the stability of the financial services sector and fostering public trust by delivering accurate, timely, and balanced news.

Mahendra also expressed OJK's support and appreciation for the media's efforts to delve deeper into OJK's programs and policies, enabling better communication with the public.

"OJK is committed to continuing to synergize and collaborate with our media partners. Once again, we extend our gratitude for the reporting, cooperation, feedback, and critiques provided," stated Mahendra.

Additionally, Mahendra highlighted OJK's ongoing efforts to fulfill the mandate of the P2SK Law to strengthen its role in society, including the development of regional economies.

As part of this commitment, OJK inaugurated a new Regional Office in Banten Province for the first time on December 6. This office marks the 36th OJK office established independently by the authority. In the near future, OJK plans to open another office in Bangka Belitung Province.

On the same occasion, the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority's Consumer Protection and Education Division, Friderica Widyasari, emphasized the significance of communication and information in the digital age. This is essential to address the challenges posed by potential misinformation and disinformation stemming from the influence of social media, financial influencers, and the overwhelming amount of information available.

“To ensure that the information received by the public is accurate, credible, and accountable, support from mass media is necessary. Mass media plays a crucial role in maintaining the stability of the financial system and the reputation of the financial services industry. Furthermore, mass media also contributes to strengthening public trust in financial products and services,” stated Friderica.

She further noted that mass media also serves to provide constructive criticism and create a dialogue regarding various policies and programs of the Financial Services Authority, thereby contributing to ensuring that industry players and regulators act in accordance with regulations and safeguard public interests.

“We also extend our gratitude and appreciation to the local mass media that have assisted the Financial Services Authority, particularly the Regional Office, in disseminating programs, policies, and information related to the financial services sector in the region,” Friderica added.

The Financial Services Authority evaluates its appreciation to the mass media based on the volume of positive news coverage regarding the Authority and the financial services industry during the period from October 2023 to September 2024. The Authority recorded a total of 61,716 news articles concerning itself and the financial services industry.

The Financial Services Authority continually encourages mass media to participate in realizing a trustworthy financial services industry that can protect consumer and public interests, serve as a pillar of the national economy with global competitiveness, and promote general welfare.
