The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) aims to attract between 17 to 18 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia by the year 2025. "We are optimistic that next year we can achieve this target," stated Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa to the media following the second day of the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) at Pullman Central Park, Jakarta, on Thursday, December 5, 2024. To reach this goal, Kemenpar will continue to promote tourism, enhance infrastructure, attract visitors during the low season, and improve connectivity.
Acting Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, further emphasized that the target of 17-18 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in 2025 is expected to align with the foreign exchange earnings generated. Made noted that increasing the target for foreign tourist visits presents both a challenge and an opportunity for Indonesia's tourism sector.
"We invite all regions, including heads of departments, industry players, and stakeholders, to collaborate, as it is not feasible for Kemenpar to achieve this alone," Made remarked to the media after the second day of the Kemenpar Rakornas at Pullman Central Park, Jakarta, on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
She continued by highlighting that one strategy to boost foreign tourist visits to Indonesia is through digitalization, which will help disseminate information about Indonesian tourism more widely. For instance, with the inclusion of Reog Ponorogo in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, it is essential to spread this information broadly so that the global community becomes familiar with Reog Ponorogo and is inspired to learn more about it.
We aim to inspire individuals and international tourists globally. Previously, many were unaware of Reog Ponorogo. However, with its recognition by UNESCO, awareness has increased, prompting many to learn more and express a desire to visit Indonesia, as stated by Made. Furthermore, it is estimated that approximately 968 million people are currently seeking information about Indonesia online. This presents a significant opportunity to attract international visitors.
Therefore, it is essential to provide valid and engaging information, highlighting events and appealing destinations that are also clean and well-maintained, creating a comprehensive ecosystem. As we move into the next year, our focus will be on delivering quality experiences. This enhancement across various aspects is expected not only to boost tourist arrivals but also to extend their stay in Indonesia. Consequently, as Made noted, this will positively impact Indonesia's foreign exchange earnings.
"Increasing competitiveness is crucial; if we want to attract visitors, we must enhance our competitiveness," emphasized Ni Luh. (ridwan@insightinnews.com)
