Seiko Indonesia Launches Sumatran Tiger-Inspired Watches

Friday, 06 Dec 2024

Seiko has once again introduced the Seiko 5 Sports Indonesia Exclusive 3rd Limited Edition. Previously, in 2022, Seiko Indonesia launched the Seiko Merah Putih collection, followed by the Seiko Komodo collection in 2023. Notably, Kevin Lie, the General Manager of Seiko Indonesia, revealed that this year, the Japanese brand is unveiling an exclusive collection inspired by the Sumatran tiger.

"We engaged in brainstorming sessions with the Seiko Japan team regarding the model for the third exclusive collection for Indonesia. Our focus is indeed on the conservation of Indonesian fauna, specifically the Sumatran tiger," stated Kevin during the Seiko Third Indonesia Exclusive Media Launch & Talkshow held at Hotel Borobudur, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. The choice of the Sumatran tiger for this exclusive Indonesian-themed collection stems from the fact that, among the three tiger species in Indonesia, only the Sumatran tiger remains.

"The inspiration arises from the fact that there were originally three tiger species in Indonesia: the Javan tiger, the Balinese tiger, and the Sumatran tiger. However, over time, the former two have become extinct, leaving only the Sumatran tiger," he explained.

To support the conservation of the Sumatran tiger, Seiko Indonesia has partnered with Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation (TWNC). Kevin mentioned that the Seiko Harimau Sumatera collection is available exclusively in a limited quantity of 1,000 items. The Seiko 5 Sports Indonesia Exclusive 3rd Limited Edition is priced at IDR 5,270,000, and the proceeds from its sales will be donated to TWNC for the conservation of the Sumatran tiger.

The Sumatran tiger is now in a critical state of existence. This serves as a warning for all of us, and Seiko aims to contribute to the preservation of the Sumatran tiger from extinction, stated Kevin. Meanwhile, Guntur, a representative from Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation (TWNC), expressed hope that this collaboration would encourage the Indonesian public to become more engaged in the conservation of endangered species, particularly the Sumatran tiger.

"It is hoped that this positive collaboration can serve as an example for many, fostering greater awareness regarding the conservation of Indonesia's unique wildlife. The responsibility for conservation efforts lies not only with individuals but is a collective obligation," he emphasized. (ridwan@insightinnews.com)
