The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia has established a collaboration with the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the field of filmmaking. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this partnership took place at the Jogja-NETPAC Asia Film Festival (JAFF) Market on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
This MoU aims to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and the Netherlands in the audiovisual sector by facilitating joint production of films, documentaries, animations, and other digital formats. The Deputy Minister of Culture, Giring Ganesha Djumaryo, representing the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, stated that this agreement is a strategic step to create more opportunities for Indonesian filmmakers in the international market.
"This joint production not only enhances the cultural ties between the two nations but also provides broader opportunities for our filmmakers to access global resources, including funding and international distribution," Giring Ganesha remarked.
Barbera Wolfensberger, Director-General of Culture and Media at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, noted that this collaboration allows Indonesian filmmakers to access Dutch national film funding. "If they (Indonesian filmmakers) co-produce with Dutch filmmakers, it will be classified as a Dutch national production. Therefore, it is very feasible for Indonesian filmmakers to utilize the available funds in the Netherlands," Barbera explained.
The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia extends its full support to JAFF as a strategic platform for promoting Indonesian films on the international stage. The introduction of JAFF Market in 2024, which will be the first and largest film market in Indonesia, significantly enhances opportunities for local filmmakers. Over 100 national and international film companies are expected to participate in this market.
JAFF is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 7, 2024, at Empire XXI in Yogyakarta. Meanwhile, JAFF Market will occur over three days, from December 3 to December 5, 2024, at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) in Yogyakarta. (deriz@insightinnews.com)
