The Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, met with the Australian Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, and Multicultural Affairs, Tony Burke, along with the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams. This meeting focused on the development of the creative economy ecosystem, as well as cultural exchange and promotion.
The meeting took place at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Riefky emphasized the need to strengthen the ties between Indonesia and Australia to foster mutually beneficial cooperation.
"I can confidently state how remarkable the relationship, commitment, and bond between both parties are in enhancing and establishing mutually beneficial collaboration," Riefky remarked in a written press statement, as quoted on Wednesday, December 4.
Riefky noted that the government places significant emphasis on the creative economy, positioning it as a new engine of growth. He also highlighted that this marks a historic moment for Indonesia, as it is the first time a dedicated ministry has been established to address the creative economy.
"In terms of institutional structure, this is the first time in Indonesia's history that we have a single ministry focused on the creative economy. This reflects our government's priority to stimulate economic growth through the creative industries as a new engine of growth," Riefky stated.
He revealed that three key topics were discussed during the meeting, including the enhancement of cooperation in economic development and cultural exchange and promotion.
To enhance our strategic partnership in the development of the creative economy, we seek to explore new methods for implementing various collaborative potentials, including programs for developing the creative economy ecosystem, cultural exchange and promotion, as well as capacity building for human resources, stated Riefky.
On the same occasion, Australia’s Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, and Multicultural Affairs, Tony Burke, congratulated and expressed appreciation for the establishment of a dedicated ministry focused on the creative economy. He noted that many individuals rely on this sector for their livelihoods, particularly in the context of creative economic development in the Asia-Pacific region.
"Many people consistently depend on the creative economy. Therefore, the existence of a standalone ministry in this field truly serves as a pioneer for our region," remarked Tony Burke.
Also present alongside Riefky during this meeting were Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy Dessy Ruhati, and Acting Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy Cecep Rukendi. (reza@insightinnews.com)
