Government Limits Credit Transfers To A Maximum Of IDR1 Million

The government is intensifying its campaign against online gambling. Recently, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has implemented a policy limiting pulse transfers to a maximum of IDR 1 million.
Ismail, the Acting Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Komdigi, stated that the pulse transfer restriction is already in effect. The government is also collaborating with mobile operators.
"The implementation of the IDR 1 million limit is currently underway and is being enforced by mobile operators," he remarked during a press conference at the Komdigi office, which was broadcast virtually on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Ismail mentioned that Komdigi and the mobile operators are still refining this policy through meetings held today, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of the strategy to combat online gambling.
"We are meeting to further sharpen our approach for more effective actions moving forward. This initiative is already in progress," he added.
The proposal to limit pulse transfers to a maximum of IDR 1 million had previously been announced by Budi Arie Setiadi, the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo).
"We will also impose a regulation limiting pulse transfers to a maximum of IDR 1 million per day," stated Menkominfo Budi Arie during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication office on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
He explained that this restriction is intended to curb online gambling within society, noting that pulse transfers have become a new method for slot gambling in the country.
"It is suspected that this gambling utilizes pulse currency. How can one transfer up to IDR 100 million to IDR 1 billion in a single day?" he questioned.
Budi Arie has also instructed mobile operators in Indonesia to enforce this pulse transfer limitation.
"I have communicated this to the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of mobile operators such as Indosat, XL, Telkomsel, and Smartfren. They have begun to socialize the policy of limiting pulse transfers to IDR 1 million per day, to prevent pulses from being used as a commodity for online gambling," he concluded.
