Mazda vehicles currently available for sale in Indonesia are imported as Completely Built-Up (CBU) units from Japan and Thailand by PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI). However, the company has plans to localize its products in the near future. Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer of PT EMI, stated that the company is in the process of establishing a factory to assemble Mazda products in Indonesia, with Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units expected to be launched soon.
"CKD will be available shortly; we cannot disclose the details yet, but it will be soon," Ricky mentioned during a meeting in South Jakarta on Monday, November 2, 2024. It is noteworthy that PT EMI has invested approximately IDR 400 billion to prepare the Mazda factory. The planned location is in West Java, although specific details regarding the assembly center remain confidential.
PT EMI has indicated that the compact crossover segment will be the primary focus of production at this facility, as this category is highly favored by Indonesian consumers. However, there has been no detailed information provided regarding which specific models will be manufactured at the plant. It is possible that the vehicles produced will include the CX-3 and CX-5, which are key contributors to Mazda's sales in Indonesia.
Regarding the product lineup, all Mazda vehicles are still imported from Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia. Models from Japan include the CX-5, CX-9, CX-30, CX-60, and the 3 hatchback, while the CX-3 and CX-8 are sourced from Thailand and Malaysia, respectively. (ferry@insightinnews.com)
