Tokopedia Founder Leontinus Appointed As Deputy Of Coordinating Ministry For Community Empowerment

The Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar (commonly known as Cak Imin), has appointed Leontinus Alpha Edison, the founder of Tokopedia, as the Deputy for Economic Empowerment and Protection of Migrant Workers. This announcement was made by Cak Imin following a Budget Committee meeting held at the Nusantara I Building of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday, December 2, 2024.

"I am grateful to welcome a new member to our team, Mr. Leon, the founder of Tokopedia. I have decided to appoint him as the Deputy for Economic Empowerment," stated Cak Imin. He elaborated that Leon's responsibilities at the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment will include coordinating efforts related to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the creative economy, and cooperatives.

Cak Imin expressed his belief that Leon's extensive experience in establishing Tokopedia and empowering MSMEs will significantly aid the ministry's mission in economic empowerment.

"Mr. Leon has a wealth of experience from founding Tokopedia, which primarily serves MSMEs," Cak Imin remarked. For context, Leontinus Alpha Edison, affectionately known as Leon, is the founder of Tokopedia, an Indonesian technology company aimed at achieving digital economic equity across the nation. Born in Pontianak on March 19, 1981, he graduated with a degree in Information Technology from Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta in 2003.

Leon co-founded Tokopedia with his partner, William Tanuwijaya, in 2009 to facilitate equal access and connect buyers and sellers throughout Indonesia. (srirahayu@insightinnews.com)
