Tuesday, 03 Dec 2024

The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has partnered with the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) to enhance the utilization of data, information, and geospatial infrastructure in support of social development. This collaboration was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Kemensos and BIG at Taman Ismail Marzuki on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, stated that this partnership aims to address the needs of individuals with disabilities. "There are numerous benefits from the data provided to us, particularly in facilitating support for our friends with disabilities," Gus Ipul remarked in a written statement on Monday, December 2, 2024.

The collaboration between Kemensos and BIG encompasses the enhancement of geospatial literacy for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, it involves the exchange of geospatial data and its application in social welfare. This partnership also focuses on the development of infrastructure and the improvement of human resource capacity. Furthermore, through this MoU, both Kemensos and BIG will be able to leverage the facilities and resources of their respective organizations.

On this occasion, BIG presented a Current Atlas to Kemensos as a demonstration of their commitment to the sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly in the area of Social Development.

The Head of the Geospatial Information Agency, Aris Marfai, explained that the purpose of the handover is to develop and enhance educational facilities that are child-friendly, accessible for individuals with disabilities, and considerate of gender. "We at the Geospatial Information Agency have created the Taktual Atlas for visually impaired individuals. This atlas operates through tactile interaction and is structured according to atlas preparation standards," stated Aris.

Aris further mentioned that the Taktual Atlas enables individuals with visual impairments to access more comprehensive information about the regions of the Republic of Indonesia. "The atlas we are currently presenting focuses on the Sulawesi region with an emphasis on administrative areas. In the future, we plan to develop themes such as tourism," he added. (deriz@insightinnews.com)
