President Prabowo Subianto has announced an average increase in the minimum wage for workers in 2025 of 6.5 percent. This figure surpasses the average increase of 3.6 percent for the current year. "The Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, proposed a 6 percent increase in the minimum wage. However, after discussions and meetings with labor leaders, we decided to raise the national average minimum wage for 2025 to 6.5 percent," Prabowo stated following a limited meeting with relevant ministers at the Presidential Office on Friday, November 29.
Sectoral minimum wages will be determined by the Provincial and City/District Wage Councils. "Detailed regulations regarding the minimum wage will be governed by the Minister of Manpower's regulations," he added. Furthermore, Prabowo emphasized that the welfare of workers is a significant concern, and efforts to improve their well-being will continue.
"We will persist in advocating for their welfare improvements," Prabowo asserted. In addition to the minimum wage increase, the government is also preparing various forms of assistance, including the Free Nutritious Food program, social aid, and the Family Hope Program (PKH).
"If all these initiatives, along with social assistance and other support, including PKH, are implemented, I believe the government's efforts to secure all segments of society, including workers, are currently very comprehensive," Prabowo remarked.
Assuming the average minimum wage for 2024 is IDR 3.1 million, the average minimum wage for workers next year will be IDR 3.3 million. (deriz@insightinnews.com)
