Malaysia Targets Palembang People Who Seek Medical Treatment

Thursday, 28 Nov 2024

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) is hosting the Malaysia Healthcare Expo (MH Expo) in Palembang from November 28 to December 1, 2024. The event was inaugurated by Sunarto, the Assistant I for Government and Social Welfare of the South Sumatra Provincial Government, alongside Shahril Nizam bin Abdul Malek, the Consul General of Malaysia in Medan.

Rahmatullah Baragau, the Marketing Director of MHTC for the Indonesian market, stated that the medical tourism exhibition features 14 hospitals from Malaysia, offering a variety of attractive deals to visitors. He expressed hope that the MH Expo would serve as an ideal platform for individuals seeking alternative healthcare options in Malaysia or interested in medical tourism.

"This marks our first MH Expo 2024 in Palembang. We certainly hope that medical tourists will gain comprehensive information regarding healthcare services and medical tourism throughout the four-day expo," he remarked during the opening of the MH Expo on Thursday, November 28, 2024. Malaysia Healthcare provides an experience for visitors seeking treatment, proximity, affordable prices, and exceptional halal tourism.

Over the years, he noted, Malaysia has solidified its position as a preferred health travel destination for medical tourists from Indonesia seeking quality medical care and services to complement the healthcare available in their home country.

Recognizing the healthcare needs of Indonesia, Malaysia Healthcare has emerged as a comprehensive platform for accessing information on medical care and options for seeking treatment abroad. It has been reported that the number of Indonesian patients traveling to Malaysia for medical treatment increased by 400% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

The majority of these visits originated from various regions, including Medan, Pekanbaru, and several others. "In response, we are actively conducting expos in several cities, such as Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya, Pekanbaru, and most recently in Palembang," he stated.

He noted that Palembang shares cultural and linguistic ties with Malaysia, which gives Malaysia Healthcare confidence in attracting visitors from the region of Bumi Sriwijaya. The Consul General of Malaysia in Medan, Shahril Nizam bin Abdul Malek, added that Malaysia is recognized as a medical tourism destination due to its transparency regarding the costs incurred by visitors. "Patients can be informed of the expenses from the outset. Certain conditions do not necessarily require expensive medications, but rather the appropriate treatment," he explained.
