President Prabowo Subianto is set to announce a salary increase for Civil Servant Teachers (ASN) and honorary teachers during the National Teacher's Day (HGN) celebration on November 28, 2024.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, confirmed that the event, scheduled to take place from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Velodrome in Rawamangun, will also include a special gift for teachers across the nation.
"During this event, we will announce improvements in the welfare of teachers. Non-ASN teachers will receive an increase of IDR 2 million, while ASN teachers will see their salaries raised by an amount equivalent to one basic salary," he stated to reporters at the Presidential Palace complex on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
He elaborated that the salary increase for non-ASN teachers will be contingent upon certification. This means that each teacher must possess certification to qualify for the additional income of IDR 2 million.
According to Mu’ti, this increase of IDR 2 million will be in addition to the salary that honorary teachers currently receive from their respective schools, whether public or private. He noted that the enhancement of welfare for honorary teachers aligns with the improvement of their qualifications, as obtaining certification requires participation in the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG).
He stated that the individual already receives a salary from their original school, which varies based on the school's capabilities. However, with the certification, they will be eligible for a certification allowance of Rp 2 million. Furthermore, he continued, teachers who are civil servants (ASN) will receive an increase equivalent to one basic salary. For instance, if a teacher's salary is Rp 3 million, their total salary will rise to Rp 6 million.
He clarified that for ASN teachers, the increase pertains solely to the basic salary, corresponding to their established rate. This basic salary will differ based on rank and other factors. Mu'ti also mentioned that this salary increase is expected to take effect in 2025, or in the upcoming fiscal year starting January of next year. "Theoretically, the fiscal year begins in January, but the actual implementation depends on the disbursement of funds from the Ministry of Finance," Mu'ti said. (deriz@insightinnews.com)
