The General Election Commission (KPU) has reported that there are 203 million registered voters for the simultaneous regional elections in 2024. Among these voters, 25.69% belong to Generation Z (Gen Z), while 33% are classified as Millennials.
This information was conveyed by the Chairman of KPU RI, Mochammad Afifuddin, during a press conference held at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs in Central Jakarta on Monday, November 25, 2024. He noted that the number of registered female voters exceeds that of male voters.
"According to the national permanent voter list, there are 203,657,354 individuals eligible to exercise their voting rights, with a composition of 101,654,993 or 49.91% male voters and 102,111,361 or 50.9% female voters," Afifuddin stated.
"From this voter list, there are 52,318,841 individuals or 25.69% who are Gen Z, along with 67,731,281 or 33% who are Millennials. Additionally, there are 55,069,832 or 27.04% from Generation X, 25,799,756 or 12.67% from the Baby Boomer generation, and 2,737,644 or 1.34% from the Pre-Boomer generation," he elaborated.
Afifuddin further explained that there are 61 million first-time voters aged under 30. The number of voters with disabilities accounts for 0.47% of the total voter population. "Specifically, the number of first-time voters under 30 years old is 61,108,169 or 30.01%, while the total number of voters with disabilities is 951,812 or 0.47%," he clarified.
The speaker elaborated that there are 1,157 candidate pairs participating in the Simultaneous Regional Elections across all levels, including gubernatorial, regency, and municipal elections. Additionally, there are 37 elections featuring either a single candidate or a blank ballot. This includes one gubernatorial election, 31 regency elections, and five municipal elections.
"We would like to convey that there are 103 gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates, 1,169 regency and vice-regency candidates, and 285 municipal and vice-municipal candidates, totaling 1,557 candidate pairs," he stated.
"Regarding the elections with a single candidate or sole nominee, there are 37 candidates. This includes one gubernatorial pair, 31 regency pairs, and five municipal pairs," he clarified. (srirahayu@insightinnews.com)
