Minister of Manpower Yassierli reported on the progress of the provincial minimum wage (UMP) formulation to President Prabowo Subianto. Yassierli received guidance from Prabowo regarding this matter, although specific details have not yet been disclosed.
"Today, we engaged in extensive discussions with the President. I conveyed to him our progress in the formulation of the UMP, and we listened to his directives. However, the results cannot be shared at this moment, as we still need to refine our approach, taking into account various considerations," Yassierli stated on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Yassierli emphasized that the principle behind the UMP formulation is to balance workers' income while maintaining business competitiveness. He acknowledged that the issuance of the Ministerial Regulation (Permen) has surpassed the timeline set by the Constitutional Court, attributing this delay to differing circumstances.
"Indeed, the philosophy behind the UMP is to ensure that we can enhance workers' earnings while also considering business competitiveness. We still have time, as the situation is different from what was previously decided," he remarked.
Yassierli has indicated that the Ministerial Regulation concerning the Minimum Wage will be released by the end of November or, at the latest, early December 2024. "Just wait, I have set a target for the end of this month. At the very latest, it will be out by the beginning of next month. I hope the ministerial regulation can be issued by the end of this month, especially after we have received guidance from the President," he stated.
Furthermore, Yassierli emphasized that the Minimum Wage Regulation will accommodate the Constitutional Court's decision, and the focus is now on formulating the appropriate framework. He also acknowledged that he has received input from labor unions.
"Certainly (we will adhere to the Constitutional Court's decision); once that is finalized, we will definitely comply with the ruling. The task now is to devise the most suitable formula. We have received feedback from our colleagues in labor unions, as well as substantial input from business associates, associations, and others," he added. (deriz@insightinnews.com)
