By putri@insightinnews.com The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has expressed its enthusiasm regarding Jakarta's selection as the host city for the world's largest food and beverage exhibition, SIAL Interfood, which will be held for the 25th time this year. This choice signifies global recognition of the potential within Indonesia's food and beverage industry. The SIAL Interfood exhibition is scheduled to take place from November 13 to 16, 2024, in Jakarta. Mardyana Listyowati, the Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, stated that the three main programs of Minister Budi Santoso for the next five years include strengthening the domestic market, expanding export markets, and enhancing the capabilities of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for export. Mardyana further elaborated that "BISA export" stands for "Berani Inovasi, Siap Adaptasi Ekspor," which translates to "Dare to Innovate, Ready to Adapt for Export." The support from Kemendag for the success of SIAL Interfood is a manifestation of these programs, she noted. Additionally, Mardyana emphasized that hosting the 25th SIAL Interfood exhibition in Jakarta will facilitate the promotion and dissemination of information regarding Indonesian products in international markets. She pointed out that Indonesian products continue to attract global consumers, particularly processed food and beverages. It is noteworthy that processed food and beverage products have emerged as one of Indonesia's leading export commodities, experiencing a growth rate of 6.81 percent over the past five years (2019-2023). The total export value of processed food and beverages from Indonesia from January to August 2024 reached USD 3.59 billion, reflecting a 6.48 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. The products that have captured significant global market shares include seafood, with shrimp at 6.88 percent, crab at 7.32 percent, sweet biscuits at 7.13 percent, pasta at 8.26 percent, and other food items at 13.07 percent. The largest trading partners for Indonesia's processed food products are the United States, with exports valued at USD 667.23 million, followed by the Philippines at USD 507.76 million, Malaysia at USD 294.31 million, China at USD 222.28 million, and Thailand at USD194,15 million. The potential of these leading products must be supported by the exploration of promising markets. Consequently, Indonesia is currently actively developing new markets in non-traditional countries such as ASEAN, Latin America, the Middle East, and South Asia. The rapid economic growth in these non-traditional nations, which also enhances purchasing power, presents a highly promising opportunity for Indonesia's export destinations. Meanwhile, Miftah Farid, the Director of Export Development for Primary Products at the Ministry of Trade, emphasized that all stakeholders play a crucial role in capitalizing on the export market opportunities for food and beverage products. "The positive performance of Indonesia's food and beverage exports can serve as a momentum for accelerating export growth, including providing opportunities for MSME products," stated Miftah. In addition to SIAL Interfood in Jakarta, the SIAL Network is also hosting similar exhibitions in various business cities around the world, including Montreal and Toronto in Canada, Shanghai in China, New Delhi in India, Paris in France, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, and Djazagro in Algeria.
